Tanzania sack national football team head coach

The Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) has terminated head coach Hemed Suleiman’s contract by mutual consent.

This is according to a statement released by the federation on Tuesday.

Commonly known as “Morocco”, Suleiman joined the national team as an assistant coach and manager of the nation’s U-20 side in July 2023. He was appointed head coach in January 2024 and took charge of 22 matches, helping the nation secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco in December.

The Taifa Stars struggled in FIFA World Cup qualifying, finishing third in group E behind Morocco and Niger, failing to secure a spot at the tournament.

The TFF has announced that Singida Black Stars head coach Miguel Gamondi will take charge of the national team temporarily.

“Following the decision, TFF has appointed Singida Black Stars head coach Miguel Gamondi to serve as interim head coach of Taifa Stars,”

“Discussions have been held between TFF and Singida Black Stars about the coach taking up his new responsibilities.”

With less than two months until AFCON commences, Gamondi has a tough task ahead as he prepares his players for the continent’s premier tournament.
