Cameroon stun hosts Morocco to reach final

Morocco’s search for a Women’s Africa Cup of Nations hit another dead end after falling to Cameroon in the semifinals on Wednesday in Rabat.

The closely contested game played at Moulay El Hassan Stadium ended goalless after extra time but Cameroon were able to win 3-1 in the penalty shootout.

Morocco had a golden opportunity to win the contest in extra time when they were awarded a penalty but Fatima Tagnaout failed to convert it.

In the shootout, Cameroon were nearly perfect, scoring three of their four attempts from the spot while Morocco on the other hand were dreadful.

Marie Ngah, Rose Bella and Myriam Nyadjou all scored for Cameroon while Hanane Aït El Haj is the only Moroccan player who managed to hit the target from the spot.

Cameroon reach their fourth WAFCON final and will face debutants Malawi who have had a Cinderella story throughout the tournament. The final is slated for Sunday in Rabat.
