France eject Morocco to storm semi-final

Overview:

France, upon qualifying for their third successive semi-finals awaits the winner between Spain or Belgium during Tuesday’s last four stage.

2026 FIFA World Cup (Quarter final):

France became the first country to qualify for the quarter final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday evening.

This happened a 2-0 victory over African representatives Morocco during the first quarter final duel at the Boston Stadium.

Two second half goals from Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele gave the French a comfortable victory.

Skipper Mbappe looked on in disbelief when he missed a first half penalty, thanks to goalkeeper Yassine Bonnou’s save.

Mbappe rediscovered his mojo with a well curled shot from just outside the goal area on the hour mark.

This was Mbappe’s 8th goal of the tournament, same as Argentina’s talisman Lionel Messi.

Six minutes later, Dembele got the second goal to double the on-fire French’s lead.

Other quarter finals:

The quarter final menu continues on Friday, 10th July 2026 when Spain tussles against Belgium at Los Angeles stadium, Inglewood.

On Saturday, it will be Norway against England at Miami stadium, Miami Gardens before the last quarter final on Sunday as the reigning champions Argentina face Switzerland at Kansas City stadium, Kansas city.

As it stands, Mbappe and Messi are the joint top scorers with eight goals apiece.

Norway’s Erling Braut Haaland follows suit with seven goals.
