CAF Confederation Cup (2nd Leg, Preliminary Round)

Uganda’s Kitara Football Club will face Egyptian giants Al Ahly Sports Club in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The confirmation came after a 2-0 victory over Somalian opposition Mogadishu City Council during the return leg of the preliminary round played at the Hoima City stadium on Saturday, 12th September 2026.
The Ugandan side christened as the Royals thus progressed 4-1 on aggregate having won the first leg 2-1 at the same venue the previous Sunday.
Jimmy Kalema and stylish midfielder Frank “Zagga” Tumwesigye were on target for Kitara in either half.
Kalema, scorer of a brace during the first leg put the home side ahead after 29 minutes.
Tumwesigye added the second two minutes past the hour mark in the second half to seal Kitara’s 4-1 aggregate success.
Kitara commenced the game brilliantly earning the first corner kick inside the opening five minutes.
From the resultant corner kick, Living Kabon hit the cross bar with a wonder inswinger.
Under the next 60 seconds, Kitara got their second corner kick when goalkeeper Yusuf Yusuf miskicked a long ball from right back Henry Musisi.
Mogadishu City Council’s Bertrand Bangura shot on target from 30 yards off a 30-yards free-kick in the 8th minute.
On 11 minutes, Kabon flipped the ball over left back Samson Ogunribide but shot hurriedly off target.
By the opening quarter hour, the writing was spelt, Kitara sought an early opener, winning three other successive corner kicks.

Kitara captain Jasper Aheebwa Baguma got booked for dangerous play in the 22nd minute.
Kabon released Kalema on the far left flank, but the latter shot across of goal with a grounder.
Kalema was cautioned for a foul on Bertrand Konfor in the 26th minute before he opened the scoring on the day towards the half hour mark as the home crowd erupted.
Moments later, Gadafi Wahabu tested goalkeeper Yusuf Yusuf.
Naby Bangoura recorded a shot off target for the visitors and Kalema missed doubling his personal tally as he watched his shot in disbelief hitting the goal post.
As the second half kicked off Mogadishu City Council introduced Abdulkadir Mohamed for Jerry Roussel Eze Henangue
Meanwhile, Kitara rested Gadafi Wahabu for Alex Emmanuel Wasswa, with Kalema paving way for Martin Kizza.
Five minutes into the second half, defender Juuko passed the ball from the back to find Kizza who beat his opponent, Mohamed Abdulkadir.
Wasswa missed target with a curl inside the goal area.
Samson Ogunribide crossed from the left flank. Frank Ouya misses contact with the header.
Juuko headed away captain Ibrahim Bangura’s dangerous freekick for a fruitless corner on the hour mark.
Two minutes later, Tumwesigye doubled Kitara’s lead inside the goal area.
Tumwesigye provided defensive work when he back tracked to defend against Ilyaas Khamis cut back.
Kitara made a triple change with 17 minutes to play.
Crispus Asiku, George Sekaaba and Christopher Bonney were all introduced at once forLiving Kabon, Henry Patrick Kaddu and Henry Musisi respectively.
Bonney crossed from the right flank but Ssekaaba headed out from close range in the 77th minute.
Mogadishu City Council made three changes. Frank Ouya paved way for Faysal Hussein.
Pentencost was replaced by Osman Ahmed and Bertrand Konfour got rested for Abdulkadir Adan Enow in the 78th minute.
The final change for the visitors came with five minutes to play.
Kingsley Asogwa Nnameka came for the industrious Naby Bangoura.
Kitara celebrated their progress to the next round as the final whistle was blown, awaiting a stern test against Egypt’s Al Ahly in October.
