Uganda won two gold medals at the 2026 Woodball World Championship in Malaysia. One came in the female team event and another in the female doubles.
2026 World Woodball Championship:
Doubles (Women):
- Gold Medal: Christine Birungi & Sanyu Mirembe (Uganda)
Uganda’s women double team won gold at the 2026 World Woodball Championship at the University of Malaysia Perlis City Campus in Malaysia.
The pairing of Christine Birungi and Sanyu Mirembe won gold during the female double event.
They posted 95 strokes in 24 gates to out-muscle Malaysia’s Aziz Asmwana and Mohd Reffal Qistina who scored 99 strokes.
On day one, Birungi and Mirembe carded 47 strokes and bettered with 48 strokes during the subsequent round.
Hong Kong finished third to take home the bronze.
This is other Uganda’s gold medal at the championship following the female team success after a 3-0 comprehensive win over hosts Malaysia.
Uganda’s triumphant team had the likes of Sanyu Mirembe, Joyce Nalubega, Christine Birungi, Joan Mukoova, Shakira Nagudi, Florence Mukooya, Babirye Nalwoga and captain Denise Nanjeru, under the guidance of the national head coach Onesmas Atamba.
The male team won bronze at the championship.
Uganda’s delegation received encouragement from His Highness Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, the Royal Prince of Perlis.
His Highness Faizuddin visited and motivated Uganda’s camp.
