In a resounding display of ambition, the Uganda DanceSport Federation (UDSF) has officially fronted a formidable three member national youth squad to wave the country’s flag at the upcoming WDSF World Breaking Championship.
Set to take place in Chengdu, China, from September 12 to 13, 2026, the elite global spectacle will see Uganda’s brightest young breakers take on the best international talent on the world stage.
The national delegation features three exceptional young athletes; George William Ntulume, Vanessa Aidah Muzaki and Sophia Kawala. Operating under the tactical direction of Head Coach Edrine Serwakulya, the trio carries the immense pride and high expectations of a nation eager to make its mark in international DanceSport.
Ahead of their long journey to Asia, Team Uganda was officially flagged off on Thursday, September 10, 2026, during a ceremony held at the National Council of Sports (NCS) Head Offices in Lugogo.
The official send off featured an interactive media briefing, offering journalists, sports officials, and supporters a chance to engage directly with the athletes, coaching staff and federation executives. Immediately following the formalities at Lugogo, the contingent proceeded directly to Entebbe International Airport to embark on their flight to Chengdu.
The significance of this international outing extends far beyond the immediate thrill of global competition. Highlighting the strategic vision behind the trip, Uganda DanceSport Federation General Secretary Barnabas Ssebuyungo emphasized the vital role this tournament plays in the broader Olympic pathway.
He noted that because the sport is now firmly entrenched in the Olympic movement, the selection of athletes aged between 16 and 18 serves as crucial groundwork for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, happening before the end of the year, while also offering a direct gateway to identify top performers for the World Games.
Confidence within the camp remains exceptionally high following intensive training sessions. Athlete George William Ntulume expressed absolute readiness, sharing that he is in peak physical shape after going through rigorous drills under the head coach’s guidance, promising that the team is fully determined to return home victorious.
“I am in good shape, I have been training since we entered camp, the coach has taken us through every drill and I promise we shall come back with victory.”
Mirroring that optimistic spirit, Head Coach Edrine Serwakulya reinforced that his squad is laser focused and ready to put their best foot forward as they represent the country with an eye on the ultimate Olympic stage.

Uganda’s young breakers must dance their way onto the 2026 Youth Olympic Games stage in Dakar, Senegal, with the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) offering two routes to qualification.
Each gender has 12 places, one for hosts Senegal, four through continental quotas, including one for Africa, and seven through the WDSF Youth World Ranking List. Uganda’s best hope is therefore to win the African slot or climb high enough in the world rankings, with only one athlete per country allowed in each gender.
But the road to Dakar starts with eligibility. A Ugandan breaker must be at least 13 on the opening day of competition, hold a valid WDSF licence for the 2025/2026 season and have competed in at least one WDSF approved event.
Strong performances on that circuit will be crucial as Uganda’s hopefuls chase either Africa’s ticket or a place among the world’s top ranked youth breakers.
